Little things mean so much and even small phrases or short sentences say so much about Royal Family Kids Camp. Here are a few that speak volumes.
- Right off the bus on Monday, first time camper Dionni was a ball of energy. As she joined her counselor and team for the week she exclaimed: “This is already the best summer of my life.”
- Little Zamya was excited from the time she went through check in. When she got her shirt she asked “I get to keep it?”
- Cole’s first impression of the many activity centers was both excitement and hesitation as his eyes got that anticipatory gleam, but then he whispered “This is really all for us? That is so cool!”
- At the end of a very busy Monday, Mac let out a big sigh and said “Best day of my LIFE!”
But nothing tells the story of camp like the view on Friday morning during the slide show. Early in the week campers and counselors sat together but they are distinct when looking out over the crowd. On Friday morning, the campers were leaning on counselors, constantly finding ways to hold hands, pat knees and stay connected – a true melding together of hearts and spirits. Even as many fought tears, there was a palpable bond between them now that won’t go away. Once back at the church building, the campers walked to their caregivers confidently, showing off their counselors. Five days full of activity that passed by in a blink but was enough to permanently engrave these adults on the hearts of these campers and vice versa. Now we trust God to complete that work in darker days ahead when they are questioning their value and their worth.
