September was a VERY full month for OFC.
Onward & Upward! Our first fall retreat of the year was attended by about 50 teens, ages 13-15, who enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, delicious meals, and insightful sessions taught by Ricky & Allison Lewis. The weather was beautiful, so we were able to swim, fish, and canoe. Stories trickled in from the lake about boys “falling” overboard and shoving off without any oars! Apparently witnessing three young men attempt to paddle in, using only their arms, was a sight to see.
We were again blessed by our retreat praise team, comprised of a group of friends who have been serving together in this manner for so long, they’ve affectionately become known as Randal & The Rest. The talents and passion from this group are beyond compare, and we are so fortunate to have this band that makes worshipping with us a priority.
Our teens also got to paint rocks that have started a Kindness Rock Garden outside the Nurses’ Station at Camp Akiva. Be sure to check it out when you visit, and feel free to add a painted rock (or join us on retreat to paint one!).
North Texas Giving Day! WOW!! Each year, you all continue to blow any hopes and expectations for this day off the charts. September 14 was a fun day for our office staff; spending the day touring the Metroplex, enjoying meet ups with those of you who could get away, and watching each gift come in, far surpassing our matching funds and bringing HOPE to so many North Texas kids.
Another special announcement was made on North Texas Giving Day: our 2018 Ambassadors of Hope Dinner & Auction speaker… LADAINIAN TOMLINSON!! Save the date on your calendars now for March 24, 2018. The former TCU All-American Running Back and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee will be our featured guest. Tell your friends (especially those from the land of TCU purple) !! This is one night you won’t want to miss!
