A Beautiful Cross, A Beautiful Memory

Deon looked like he was playing in the dirt at woodworking. However, our woodworking leader, Tim, who is an artist and carves magnificent wildlife out of wood, noticed what no one else had. The boy had put glue on his cross and then added dirt. It was an original.

Deon was using God’s creation to make something beautiful.

Tim immediately acknowledged the boy’s creative idea. He then very excitedly sat with him, teaching him how to hold a hammer and hit a nail. He worked with Deon to make sure the cross would hold together and balanced it so it would stand on its own. He then urgently requested a photographer to capture what this child had built.

As Deon held up his cross, Tim coached him saying, “Hold that cross high!” The boy beamed. Tim had seen what others had missed. He had seen Deon’s creativity. Together, they made something beautiful, a beautiful cross and also a beautiful memory.”

Our Father's Children exists to provide HOPE to children of abuse and neglect in North Texas. We accomplish this mission through camps for young kids, retreats for middle school and high school students, and mentoring for teenagers. We recruit volunteers from a variety of cities, churches and organizations who have a heart for offering these kids hope in Jesus Christ. Whether as a volunteer or donor (or both), we would love to have you join us in providing hope to these kids!
